Drivers allegedly racing Ferraris and Lamborghinis at speeds in excess of 200km/h on Canadian highways have been arrested by police.
Alberta police are investigating reports that drivers of luxury sports cars have been using southern Alberta highways as speedways, CBC News has reported.
Four sports cars were tracked down south of Calgary after local residents complained about speeding and noise.
Zahir Rana, one of the people arrested, owns a car dealership that sells Ferraris and Lamborghinis.
His company produced a video that shows high-end cars speeding down rural highways with a shot of the speedometers showing speeds in excess of 300km/h.
Mr Rana is seen driving his Lamborghini at 339km/h.
After his arrest, Mr Rana told CBC News that the video was fake.
“It’s viral marketing. It’s nothing. It’s not factual at all,” he said.
“You can make … spaceships land on the moon and put it on TV and (make it) look real.”
Alberta police officer Sergeant Patrick Webb said the video could be authentic and an investigation was underway.
“That gets past the point of simply being a little bit heavy on the foot and exceeding a highway speed by 10 or 20 kilometres an hour. This is into the area of dangerous driving and endangers everybody, ” he said.
